some people say rules are meant to be broken. i agree and disagree in many ways. they are some rules that its ok to break and some rules that are not.for example i cant just go and shoot someone and think that its ok. that is a rule that is not meant to be broken. but if there is a rule that you cant get up out of your seat it class that rule would be ok to break.there are many times i broke a rule rules and it worked to my advantage and disadvantage. one time when it worked out as an advantage was in football. i was blocking for the ball carrier and i held the person. it worked out to my advantage because i didnt get called with the penalty and he scored a touchdown. a time when it did not work out to my avantage was also in football. i was going to tackle some one from behind and i grabbed the back of his pads. that was a penalty and cost my team some yards.that was my disadvantage. we know that the golden rule is treat others as one would treat yourself. my golden rul is to be honest. honest is my #1 rule that guides me and my interactions with others.i think if your honest people will except you better for who you are. and if your in trouble and you tell the truth you will most likely not get in as much trouble as you were originally gonna be in.that is why i think honesty is the number one rule. i am the type of person that is in the middle of structure and craving chaos. that is what i think my golden rule is and the disadvantages and advantages to breaking rules
ReplyDeleteAndrew, that is so right. You used really good examples in your essay; i like that it was about football. I can also see why you think being honest is your golden rule. It does tell a person a lot about them. Well done bro.
DeleteEveryone has broken the rules at some point in their life. Not everyone is perfect and nobody ever will be. I believe that rules are not made to be broken. If they were made to be broken then what’s the point in having rules to follow. Everyone has their own opinion on whether rules should be broken. You can look at this in two different ways. For example you wouldn’t run red lights because it’s a rule, but raise your hand in school is a rule that people break all the time. So you can choose what you think. A time I broke the rule was being out after curfew. This worked to my advantage because I luckily wasn’t caught by the cops. I was right down the road from my house. So it all worked out fine. I’ve broken the rule as minor as using my phone during class. This didn’t work to my advantage because I got it taken by my math teacher and had to get it at the end of the day. The golden rule that most people go by is “treat people how you want to be treated.” My golden rule is always telling the truth no matter how bad something is. You won’t always get in a lot of trouble if you just tell someone the truth on what happened. Not only does it make life easier but it’s less stress on you. I always tell my brothers to just tell my parents the truth on what happened because I think it’s the number one thing to do. It has not only gotten me far but I’m sure many other people have gotten far by just telling the truth. Therefore this is how I look at people breaking the rules and what I believe the golden rule is.
ReplyDeleteAlexis your essay is well written and shows how the rules should and shouldn’t be broken. I totally agree with what you have to say but I also disagree, because I think rules are meant to be broken but everyone has their own opinions so it’s okay. I agree with your one golden rule though, you did a great job keep up the work.
DeleteRules are everywhere, in school, at your home, in public, in a sport, and in public buildings you can’t just get away from rules. Society is based on rules and without them the world would be chaos. Some rules are meant to be broken and some aren’t. The little rules that do no harm are meant to be broken not the major ones like killing someone or robbing a store or bank. I think rules like spray painting, texting while driving, fighting, jay walking, and wearing your seatbelt while driving. Even though rules are meant to protect us some of them are unfair and are meant to be broken.
ReplyDeleteI have broken some rules in my life some helped me and some haven’t helped me. I have jay walked before and it got me to where I had to go quicker. I also broke a lot of school rules which didn’t really get me anywhere except having a detention, Iss, Oss, or lunch detention, and getting my hat taken away. I think the school rules need some adjustments, like I don’t see how wearing a hat affects anyone or how the student learns and there peers. Its just another piece of clothing that a student wears.
My one golden rule is do not be scared to speak your mind, and be yourself. I feel like you have the right to speak your mind and in school they take that away, and in public. If you feel like something is unfair or something gets you mad you should be able to say it. For an example say you don’t like a student and you don’t want to sit by them I think you get the right to say that without getting in trouble for saying it. Also my other main golden rule is be yourself because being you is the best person you can be. You don’t have to try to fit in with cool crowd by acting stupid or going to parties. If you be yourself then people would like you for who you are and not who you try to be. Also if you be yourself you will go the farthest you can in your life because you do what you enjoy in life and have a good and long life if you make the right choices. Personally I think rules are meant to be broken because if you stand for something a rule isn’t going to stop you from doing that thing or speaking what you want.
I agree you cant get away with everything. At times you should be able to get away with things. Every has broken a rule. Like you said about the seat-belt, texting and jay walking.
DeleteThose are rules that every breaks and gets away so i agree that our rules should lighten up and we should stop taking things so seriously.
Justin this essay is awesome. So good I can even put it into words.your opening sentence was really good it made me wanna read the whole thing I love every single thing about this writing I hope you stick with writing because the more you write the better you will get and at this rate you'll write a book ;) keep up the great work
DeleteJustin I think this essay is great and well written. I agree with a lot of what you wrote. I like how you believe you should be able to speak your mind. Not many people do this because of what you said they are scared. I think this was well stated and more people should listen to this golden rule. You are doing really well! Keep up the great work!
DeleteInteresting stance, Justin. Sometimes rules become outdated and it is important to take a second look at the policies we have in place.
Deletewhy do you give me an 80 on this one which i think was my best one, i did the requirement and more. I think i deserve more than an 80.
DeleteNo body is an angel. Every has broken a rule and they probably have broken more than one. May it be “no running” and they ran or they stole something. I believe that rules should be broken because rules are what make or break people. In some cases breaking rules can show a persons courage or how rebellious somebody is. I have a couple of stories of time i broken rules. I have to say i am no thug. I don’t break big rules so bad that i get arrested. I break the smaller types of rules. Like one time I lied and broke my mom’s rule of lying. Also I stole a piece of gum from Quick check and didn't get caught, at least by the clerk. I got caught breaking a rule by my mom. She saw me chewing the gum and I lied saying that it was a free piece the clerk gave me. She knew i lied so I got in even more trouble. I learned that if you want to break a rule you must always remember to never get caught. You have to get away with it to actually break a rule. I usually get away with breaking rules. I usually get away with breaking rules but I get caught sometimes. Whenever you break a rule you always think you get away with so you just keep breaking rules. Soon everything become a rule breaking maniac. So I recommend to just break rules sometimes. Take that rule breaking through and do it. To sum up my thought I am not that good at breaking rules and getting away with it. You should sometimes break the rules. And only break little rules so that you won’t get in major trouble. So um that was my thought.
ReplyDeleteChase your essay was written extremely well. I enjoyed it very much. I can’t wait for you to write more. I’m sure they’ll be great. I think that people are better off not breaking rules so they won’t risk the chance of an advantage or a disadvantage. Anyways keep up the good work!
DeleteChase, you have neat ideas and quality stories (stealing gum from the QuickChek? You are a wild one!) I enjoyed reading your response, but try to end on a note of confidence! No need to say "so um that was my thought."
DeleteSome people say that rules are made to be broken. Others say that you have to know the rules expertly before you break them. This week we reviewed our classroom rules and procedures. A time when I broke a rule and it worked to my advantage is when I was younger and I stayed up past my bed time and my parents didn’t notice. It worked to my advantage because I got to stay up later and watch television that night without getting in trouble.
ReplyDeleteThere has been times that I broke a rule and it left me a disadvantage also. My dad has a rule of nobody can text at the dinner table when we go out to eat. Every time we go out to eat he reminds our family that rule. I was texting my friend and I didn’t want to stop. I continued to sneak and text my friend through out dinner. All of a sudden, my dad noticed me texting during dinner. He immediately took my phone away as a consequence. That was my disadvantage of breaking a rule.
We know that the Golden Rule is that one should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself. My Golden Rule is to always be respectful. Being respectful is the best rule to me. As long as you are respectful there should be no problems in life. One personal rule that I have developed for myself that guides me in my existence and my interactions with others is to be nice. If you’re nice to people they’ll get along with you. I know I always get along with nice people! I am the type of person who craves chaos other than thrives on structure. This is because sometimes chaos is fun. Also, I think chaos is something to look forward to to me.
Chaos implies fun much more than structure...I have to agree with you there. Nice job, Tyler. I enjoyed reading your response.
Deletewhen I think of rules, I think of the laws. People know the rules but they just want to be ignorant and do it anyways. Rules are not made to be broken, they're made not to be broken. They"re made to disipline people and help the society out. When someone breaks a rule, it just doesnt effect them, it effect the whole society. Lets say a person goes and murders somebody in their home. Its's going to make everyonee around there scared and everyone will not be the same. Rules are made obviously for reason; it keeps the world safe. But some people want to be rebels and go against the rules.
ReplyDeleteEveryone at least broke the rules before, I have before and it kind of worked to my advantage. I was with friends and we were all playing ding dong ditch. So we hit a doors back and forth and never got caught. We could of got into a lot of trouble but we got away with it and we broke the rules but never got caught. Now a time it did not work to my advantage was when me, my brother, and friends were all bord and it was kind of late out. So my one friend decides to say "lets throw rocks at cars!", they all agreed, i didnt. But I went with them anyways. So they were throwing having fun and laughing and I just sat aside not trying to get involved. They hit one to many cars and they chased them back to my friends house. Before that happen, I was inside my friends house playing with his little brother. They tell me what happens, and there is about five cars outside his house with the chief of the police. We broke so many rules that night, well I should say they did but i also took the blame with them. We understood what we did wrong and that time we got caught.
My golden rule is be humble and it will pay off in the long run. I try to be humble all the time and tell others to be also. being humble will take a long way. I was humble one time about accepting what I done was wrong and did not get in as much trouble I was suppose to be in. I am the type of person that thrives on structures because I like to solve problems, not make problems. Iam a leader not a follower.
Nice work, Jeo! The reflection you put into this response was great. I liked how you talked about the implication that rule breaking has for not just the rule breaker but the society as a whole.
DeleteWhen I think of rules, laws come to mind. People know the rules and laws they just want to be ignorant and brea kthem. Rules are not made to be broken , Theyre made to disipline people and help the society out. When someone breaks a rule, it just doesnt effect them, it effect the whole society.
ReplyDeleteLike the time cops were looking for my father and me and my sisters had to be put in a home because my social worker was scared that he might hurt us and my mother, my mother had lied saying she didnt know where he was , her lying put us in danger but also she lied because she didnt want to the man she loved gone i lied also saying he was a great father always there i made my sisters lie to my social worker i feel horrible to this day but in the long run i was standing up to what i thought was right but also i broke the law. Another time was when i skipped school broke into my old school to fight another girl , i got into so much trouble i have a tresspassing charge against me which now reflected on my mother she rasied me so well and i let her down because of a stupid boy and i got myself in trouble because now i cant get a job until im 18 so yes laws and rules apply they start out very young and if you dont listen to rules or laws now you wont make it in society to be honest .
Some people say that the rules are made to be broken. Other's say that you have to know the rules expertly before you break them.recently we whent over our class rules , i did break a rule even after we whent over the rules. the rule that i broke was useing my cell phone during class this rule even thogh it was wrong to break it did work to my advantage because i didnt get caught and got to talk to my freind and play a game.but if i got caught it would not have worked to my advantage. a rule i broke that did not work to my advantage was to talk during class and have an attitude . i got yelled at and had to leave the class for a few minutes and that was definatly not good. i dont plann on brakeing that again . my golden rule is to definatly try to be nice to everyone. because no one feels good when people are mean or rude to them, and i know that i woould not want people treating me badly like being rude or mean. being disrespectfull is not how to go about things
