  1. About a year ago I joined a spring football league for the Manchester Hawks. When we had our first practice, we looked really good. We got along, we played as a unit, and we all played 110%. Over the course of the season, we kept winning our games. We easily beat Middletown, but Holmdel put up a fight with us but we still managed to beat them. Then we made it into the championships. It was us vs. Holmdel. We had been undefeated and the only team to beat Holmdel was us, so it was a really big match. The 1st half went really well. We had been up by a lot of points and have been executing our plays well on both sides of the ball. Once half time was over, Holmdel started to get angry. They have been playing more aggressively. They were hitting harder and running faster. They started to score points. By the 4th quarter we were barely leading. The score has been neck and neck throughout the 4th quarter. I knew then it was not a time to give up, because we went undefeated the whole season, now was not the time to ruin that. So on offense, I blocked the person in front of me like my life depended on it, and on defense I got through the line like there was nobody in my way. We deserve a win. There was no way I was going to finish the season with a loss. The whole team played our hearts out and we ended up winning the championships. We went through the whole season undefeated! Our hard work and effort really paid off. It felt amazing, because we came together as a team and won the championships. Sometimes it’s best that you push yourself, because when you do push yourself you can do things you couldn't even imagine, like having an undefeated football season.

    1. I like your story Andrew I t is very well written. I can’t believe you made it the whole season undefeated that’s amazing. You guys most of worked really hard to go undefeated giving over 110%. I’m happy that you won the championship and you tried you hardest for your team.

    2. I also enjoyed your story. Again, when you push yourself it is amazing what could happen. If you did not, you would have never known what you were capable of. Also, by pushing yourself your team was able to be undefeated. You will probably push yourself alot more in other things now you know how the outcome will be. Good job!

    3. Andrew I liked your story for many different reasons. One is because I played spring foot ball with you and we did try 110 percent every single day. When you push your self to the limit you can accomplish every thing. Like winning a championship. I think you will push your self in every sport you do now.

  2. When I was in seventh grade I decide to do cross country and this was my first year. I pushed to do good because it was my first year. The ref shot in the air at my first home meet and so we were off I started off sprinting but then slowed down at the softball fields and down the hill when I went to the uphill I sped up I did not slow down a bit I went to the front of the high school and went to the beginning of the middle school. I ran as fast as I could the last five hundred meters. But the point is I pushed myself as hard as I could. And I made it perfectly. I came in 3rd and my parents bought me a victory pizza. It was a very good day for me and all my friends congratulated me. And they pushed me to meet this goal. In states I came in the top 100 Out of over 600 runners. I was very proud when I made varsity that year. And that was the time I pushed myself over other expectations. I considered that my new favorite sport at the time.

    2. I really liked your story, Craig. It seems like you really tried hard to make varsity. You pushed yourself to your full compacity and you accomplished. Congratulations on making varsity and hopefully you can make it even further with cross country. I think it's amazing how you're in the top 100 in the state!

  3. To be successful in life setting goals for yourself is crucial. When you set goals for yourself you have something to work for, something to look forward too, and something you can eventually conquer. I remember when I started playing football. Everybody told me how hard it is and how much running there is. I was getting nervous and wasn’t looking forward to the season at all, but I promised myself I would not quit or give up. During practice I pushed myself as hard as I could to help me get better. During the season I got better and better. After the season I was glad I didn’t give up. Now football is my favorite sport to play. When Michael Jordan said “You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them” he was right. If you don’t believe you can do something you won’t be able to succeed in life. You have to believe you can do something before you do it. You can succeed doing anything as long as you try your hardest and not give up. Michael Jordan, the man who said “You have to expect things of yourself before you can them” was a very successful man because he expected himself to be great before he was. That is one of the main reasons he was successful in life. We should all think of Michael Jordan as a role model even if you don’t know much about him, he was someone who succeeded by working hard in life and it paid off for him. All of us should try to do the same and we should all strive to be excellent in life like Michael Jordan. Just remember if you give one hundred percent and you do what ever it takes to be successful you will succeed in life.

Yeah it was difficult but they definitaley over exaggerated.

  4. For three years, I did not pass the NJASK Math test, the results were always the same 196 every year, not the 200 to pass. This always put me in basic skills math, where I always received marks in the 90's on my report card. I knew high school was around the corner and I needed to really pass the ASK so be in a higher math class. So I worked extra hard in math and studied all the time in eighth grade. I asked my parents if I could go to a math tutor a few months before the ASK and they said yes. I went twice a week to a tutor. I was ready for the test and when April came I took the test, I waited all summer for the results and once they did finally arrived, I knew all the work was worth it. I PASSED! I do think you should try hard for something, it is worth it and you feel great about yourself after you succeed. Now the next time I need to push myself, I know I will be able to do it.

    1. Hey Floch, I really enjoyed reading your writing. I too had trouble passing the ASK test. I was either so close to passing, or so close to failing. High School rang a bell in my head too, telling me that it was time to pull it together and pass the test. Positive acts equal positive results, great work!

  5. A goal that i was pushing my self extra hard for was to place in this surfing contest. There were many good kids in the contest.I was expecting to get 9th place ouot of 23 kids. I trained for very long before that. The results were worth all of he training i improved my style and turns and snaps by so much.So it was the day of the contest.I was pushing myself so much that i was stressing out over it.You cant surf good unless your relaxed. So i just didnt think much. I just tried my hardest I possibly could without overthinking or sressing out.I came in 2nd in my first heat. And i came in 2nd in my second heat as well. i was very excited and proud of myself. But i could get to excited yet because i had one more heat to go. This was against the top kids around. I came in second in that heat.So we waited to hear the final averaged out scores. It turns out i came in 7th out of 23 kids. I was so amazed and proud of myself. All of the pain of training in the gym and surfing was nothing compared to the result. That is one goal i tried very hard on and suceeded on.

  6. Michael Jordan once said, "You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them." A time when I asked more of myself than I thought I could do, was when I played basketball. I did it since kindergarten and then I ended up stopping in 8th grade. I did it for about 8 years. In those years that I played, I kept playing for the REC team, then I transferred to a "travel" team because the coaches thought I was good enough. Going from a REC team to a travel team was totally different. I had to push myself so much harder on the travel team. It was more difficult and I learned so much more stuff than I did on the other team. But anyways, my goal was to help my team win every game. I was hoping we would become undeaftable. What drove me to fulfill this personal goal was that I went to practice EVERY DAY, even if I wasn't feeling well. After practice, I would go home and go on a late night jog. I would also practice my shooting skills outside with my own basketball net. Sometimes I would have a friend come over and verse me in a little game. I kept getting more and mroe competitive over basketball. I did that same routine every day and I would become better as the days went on. The results ended up being that we won most games, we lost about 2. So out of about 11 or so games, we only lost 2. Even though my goal wasn't perfect, I became better at basketball and we always have other years to become undeafable like I wished! I'm proud of myself and my team. I'm hoping to start basketball again soon.

  7. The time where I asked more from myself that I thought I could do was when I tried to make everyone else happy but myself. At this time I was getting into fights with my family, friends, and the people I loved. I thought that if I tried to make them happy they would finally forgive me for what I did to hurt them. I've actually did this recently, to someone I loved. I hurt them so bad that it was over between us. Me thinking that sorry would fix everything it didn't. I have must of said sorry to that one person multiple of times. Me knowing that they moved on killed me, therefore I tried to make that person forgive me and make them happy again. Then I realized I wasn't happy, at all. So I tried to make us both happy by fixing things that drove us apart. Unforntually that didn't work either, so I stopped trying. Couple of months has passed and we finally started to talk to each other, asking how we've been doing, and then....that one person who I loved said that they missed me and everything about me. Once they told me that I realized what I did to hurt them was wrong for me to do. I realized that I didn't only hurt my self emtionally, but that hurt them emtionally and effectivly. I pushed myself to succed at what I was trying to get at. I tried so hard just so we could be where we are today, happy.

I start going to practice then the days kept passing by i was getting better my mom was getting more proud of me i got really happy because i was doing good for me and for my mom she was proud of me that makes me stronger to keep trying more and more just to see my mom sliming, The game was actually tied my time did really good I'm kinda upset because i dont play anymore but That is one goal i tried very hard on and succeded on i did it for me, for my time and i also made my mom proud.

  9. One time when I asked more of my self then I thought I could do is when I was running track. I was running four, four hundred meter, three, three hundred meters and two, two hundred meters for a practice. I thought I was never going to do it. For you’re in formation. A four hundred meter is one lap and four of them is a mile. Also a three hundred is three quarters of a lap. A two hundred is half of a lap. So I was running the first four intervals and I thought I was going to through up. Then I realized if I push my self to the limit I will get stronger and faster. Also I will be able to tolerate more. Then my body will get used to the way I am running and I will push my self even harder. What drove me to fulfill my self goal was that my friends were coming in at their personal best times and I thought why can’t I do that. So I drove my self tot the point that I actually through up once. The coach said that I was doing a great job. He said that it was actually good for my body to get rid of fluids like that. When I was done with the work out I laid down on the track for a couple of minutes. I was so tired. When I got up to the locker room Mr. Jordan said that I had the potential to be a good runner in the track season. That day I was so excited that I went home and ran another two miles around my neighborhood. I think that if you can push your self to the limit every time you do any thing even if you are just doing any kind of sports you can accomplish any thing.

    1. I agree with your statement 100 percent because you pushing yourself to do all of that in one day is a lot and I can relate to that a little bit. I think that took a lot of courage of you to run that much in such little time at practice but I understand you got to do what you have to do to get what you want. As I were saying I agree with exactly what your saying and that's really good what you did.

  10. Not to long ago I once had more than 2 homework assignments in each class Math, Biology, and World History and English. I actually never intended doing all of the work because I didn't feel like doing it. Then I took a glimpse at my grade and seen I had a few b's and a couple of c's so to fix up my grades I did every homework assignment and asked some of my teachers for extra credit work. I stayed up until like 12:00 tying to finish all of that work. I pushed and pushed my self to do all that work to get the honor roll I got last period. I never thought I'd get it but It turned out that pushing my self and working hard really pays off. Pushing your self and working to your extreme is the best thing anybody can do to get what they want in life but there's a positive side and a negative side to all of this. The positive side is pushing your self can possibly get you to your objective you want. The negative side is you can only push yourself so much.
All about this is just letting you know what to do if you ever want to achieve something work achieving.

  11. A while back I had more than two assignments and I wasn't felling it so I decided to only do one. I had about a month to both of them and I decided to do the one in a the entire time I had. So I did the one and I got a fifty on it because it was a double subject assignment. I thought that I did pretty good on the one assignment but all I could expect was a fifty for not completing the entire thing. It was my fault for not giving one hundred and ten percent. When I looked at my grade I was very upset and thought to my self well its all my fault for being lazy and not trying to finish the entire subject. I think that's what Michael Jordan means by his quote "you have to expect things of yourself before you can do them." You have to put forth the effort to get what you want, or what you deserve.

  12. Last year I had gone to a wedding. It was my dads friends wedding. My middle school band teacher was there, Miss Shivers. She had the bride and he brother and sister as studenta.I got to talking to her. Eventually by the end of the night I had agreed to learning to play the flute. By the next monday I had a flute in my hands trying to make a noise. It took maybe 6 tries, that made me think that playing would be eassy. Then I was taught how to hold the flute the right way. I could do it but only if I looked at it. Then I was taught a few notes, that was easy. The hard part was playing with out stopping in between each note to fix my fingering.
I eventually got the hand of it after countless "ughs" and "I cant do this". I got the B flat scale down pretty good, low and high. But the most challenging thing was being able to play with the band. Some of the floutist had been playing since 4th grade! But I eventually got very frusterated because I couldnt play or read the sheet music with out writting in all of the notes. I stayed after twice a week to play with one of the more advanced flute players. I willcalways remember her turning to me and saying "Your not learrning this fast enough, and thats not good. Emma just learned and she can play better than you". At that moment the feeling of failure hit me. I thought I woould never learn to play like everyone else. I walked out of that practice room crying. Then Miss Shivers came to me and said "Dont let other people get you down. Say this with me ' we all do things we enjoy'". Her point was if this is something I enjoy just do it and dontletanyone stand in my way. Eventually my goal of playing was over come. I went to Hershey with band and we competed and even won two awards. Now I play in the high school concert band, all because I set a goal and i completed it.

  13. I think it is very sweet that you did that for your mom. I also think that if you really wanted too next year you can try out for soccer or come join the Field Hockey team! But it is very true that if you set a gole you can over come it. I saw it first hand with you. When you first moved here from brazil you didnt speak hardly any Engliah. Now you do!
